Over Winter Break, I read Yellowface. The novel is written from the perspective of a white woman, who in the beginning, recalls her memories of an Asian friend. She ends up secretly stealing a draft about Chinese American history from her friend and publishing it as her own work. Overall, the novel grapples with representation and cultural appropriation. I was enthralled by the way the novel was continuously in movement, and I could not put it down! I was invested in the plot and every character's decisions. Yellowface was also thought-provoking and made me ask a lot of questions about identity. And, even though there were actually no main Asian characters, I felt connected to the content of the novel. I would definitely recommend for anyone curious or passionate about racial identity.
