The last flash fiction piece I read was “Three Is A Rational Number” by Michele Finn Johnson, which grapples with adolescence and teenhood from the perspective of the narrator. The narrator is confused at the unfairness surrounding him, like how his twin sister can figure out life but can’t figure out math, or how the school “goon” is also the smartest in the grade. The end of the story resolves neatly, with the narrator, his sister, and his strange friend becoming a trio, despite their various differences.
If you are looking for a heartwarming story, this is it!
